“Have you ever been in the New Yorker?”

Only a couple of weeks ago I mentioned to someone (an American visiting the UK, where I live) that I was a cartoonist.

Practically the first thing he said in response was “Have you ever been in the New Yorker?”.

Well, no I haven’t. I tried a couple of times, but soon lost interest. Apart from anything else I have to admit that I just don’t find the cartoons in the New Yorker very funny. Maybe I’m not sophisticated enough.

Here’s an interesting post on the web site of cartoonist Ted Rall that more or less chimes with my own view of cartoons in the New Yorker.
